What this site stores about a visit.

Who operates this site

AI Standards operates this public website. This notice covers that website only. Tools used to write and publish the site are a separate operator surface and are not this website.

Theme preference

If you choose a theme or colour mode, the site stores a first-party cookie named ais_appearance. It holds only the theme id and, when you set one, the colour mode. It is set for the whole site (Path=/), lasts up to one year (Max-Age=31536000), and uses SameSite=Lax. The site reads it in the browser so the next page can keep your choice. Clearing cookies or choosing the site default removes it.

Analytics and tracking

The public website does not run analytics, heatmaps, advertising pixels, or other visitor trackers. Settings for those exist on the operator tools; this website does not load them.

Contact and subscribe

The contact section on the home page does not collect a name, email, or message. Its actions are a link to the RSS feed and a link to the essays index. There is no email subscribe form. A public contact email is not published; use the contact section on the home page (/#contact).

Hosting and logs

The site is hosted on Vercel. A request to the site includes the usual HTTP data Vercel needs to serve the page, such as IP address, user agent, URL, and referrer. The website's own code does not store visitor IP addresses. Vercel may keep access and edge logs under its own terms.

What this site does not collect

This website does not create accounts, take payments, or offer comments. The site server loads published pages from the operator's content API. That request is not a record of you as a visitor.

What is stored when you write

If you send the contact form or the on-site prompt, the site stores the name, email, and message you typed, plus the page you sent it from. If you post a comment, the site also stores the name, email, and comment text as described under Comments. Those rows stay until you ask for deletion, the retention period ends, or the operator deletes them.

Comments

If you post a comment, the site stores the name and email you typed, the comment text, the post it belongs to, and a first-party visitor identifier. Email is used only for moderation and is never shown on the public site. A hashed form of your connection address (not the address itself) is kept to enforce rate limits and to reject automated posts. Comments stay until the retention period set by the operator, or until they are deleted. You can ask for a copy, a correction, or deletion of a comment you sent.

Reactions

Reactions are anonymous. The site stores which reaction you chose on a post, tied to a random first-party visitor cookie, so each reaction type can be recorded once per visitor. Counts are published. No name or email is collected for a reaction. A hashed connection address may be used only for rate limits.

Browser storage

A session identifier is kept in session storage for this tab when first-party measurement is on. If you pick a theme, that choice is stored in a first-party cookie. Signing in to the admin area sets the authentication cookies required to stay signed in. If you react to a post, a random first-party visitor cookie (ais-vid, httpOnly) is set so the same reaction is not counted twice. It is not a name, email, or advertising identifier. Pending comments you submitted may be remembered in this browser until they are moderated.

How long

Measurement rows are deleted after the retention period set by the operator. Contact rows stay until they are deleted. Comments are deleted after the comment retention period set by the operator, or sooner if you or the operator delete them. You can ask for a copy, a correction, or deletion of a message or comment you sent.
